Teacher's Assistant for the
Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod
The LanSchool v7.7 teacher console will now
run on the Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod. It is called the
Teacher’s Assistant. When paired with a LanSchool Teacher console
running on either Mac or Windows, the Teacher’s Assistant can perform the
following features on Mac, Windows or Thin Client students:
Reduce Student Distractions
Teachers can reduce student distractions
by Blanking Screens, Limiting Applications and Limiting Web Browsing on
student computers. This helps direct student attention from their
computer to the teacher and keeps students on task.
Monitor Students
Ideal for monitoring student activity
within a classroom setting, the Thumbnail feature allows you to view all
screens as well as see the current application and website that the
students are running. Teachers can send messages to all or individual
students.
Assess Student Understanding
Students can be quickly polled during a
lecture with true/false or multiple choice questions.
Help Individual Students
Students can silently Request Help from
the teacher. A small question mark appears on the thumbnail with the
student question, which indicates they need help.
Remote Control Student
The Remote Control Student feature in
LanSchool 7.7 allows teachers to be mobile in the classroom while still
having access to remotely use the mouse and keyboard on a selected
student’s machine
Remote Control Teacher
Remote Control Teacher allows teachers to
use all the features of the LanSchool Teacher Console while moving about
the classroom

LanSchool Technical Advantages
Low network bandwidth
LanSchool requires between 5% and 20% of
the bandwidth used by the competition. While showing the teacher's
screen, LanSchool v7.7 uses around 24 KB/sec. Monitoring thumbnails
requires less than 10 KB/sec. Because LanSchool uses a broadcast or
multicast packet, the bandwidth required for controlling two
computers is close to that required by 250 computers. Other
product's bandwidth requirements increase with every additional
computer that is monitored.
Reliability
LanSchool thwarts attempts by students
to disrupt the class by disabling the software. LanSchool students
will re-join the session if the network is unplugged, the service
will re-start automatically, and registry keys are protected from
change. Savvy students will have the competitive products disabled
in minutes.
Security
If you suspect a student is using a
unauthorized teacher console, you can quickly identify them with the
security monitoring tool. It captures all LanSchool activity to a
log file. There is also a "secure" version of LanSchool that
requires teachers to enter a password to open the console.
Works with Subnets and VLANS
LanSchool v7.7 functions across subnets
and VLANs using Multicast and Directed Broadcast technology. Port
796 is the only port required.
Low processor and memory requirements
LanSchool only requires about 4% of the processor and 8 MB of memory on the client.
