EPWin is a PDF "over
print" utility. By using EPWin you can take advantage of several modules that
will enable you to over print fixed or variable data onto your PDF forms. Once
you have setup an EPWin job, you then create a multi-page PDF file containing
all your specified data. The amount of pages to be created can be entered by the
user, or if a database has been used, select the option to create the quantity
as dictated by the number of records in the database.
Once
you have opened a PDF file as your overlay form, you can start to add any of the
available EPWin modules to overprint your data ontop of the PDF form. By using
some of the powerful features, you can easily and quickly produce those
difficult and awkward variable data jobs.
Take advantage of
the GRID feature, and you can soon create a page that is divided into many
sections. All EPWin modules will integrate with the grid to enable repetition of
the data within every cell. If you are using the number module, you also have a
unique feature that allows the user to create columns of numbers; this is great
for those ticket jobs that need to be in numeric order after the job has been
guillotined.
Another special
feature of EPWin is the CYCLE routine. This is used when creating your PDF
output file. After you have specified the amount of pages to create, you can
then also specify the amount of cycles to do. Once EPWin has gone through the
first cycle, it will then start the next cycle. However, unlike a copies count,
which basically duplicates, EPWin does not reset any of the modules that were
used, they continue from the last page of the previous cycle. This is useful for
printing books of tickets where you do not want the ticket number to reset at
the start of each book of tickets.
EPWin comes bundled with several modules, each module performing a specific task
of over-printing. These module's offer the user numerous options and features to
help you create that perfect page. By combining a mixture of the modules and
tailoring them to your needs, you soon start to realize the potential that EPWin
has to offer.

Number
Module:
This
module caters for all your numbering situations. Enter a start number,
with or without leading zeros, left or right justified. You can have a
fixed number or an incrementing number. Choose your font, size and
colour, you can even draw the number at any angle of your choice.
|
|
Date
Module:
If
you need a date, past, present or future, this module enables you to
display your date, with a multitude of formats and styles. |
|
Text
Module:
Use
the text module to overprint any additional text you require. You can
type in your text or if you already have the text available in a text
file, you can also import it into the module and save on your typing.
The text module allows you to specify an area for your text, and EPWin
will take care of all the text formatting. |
|
Data Module:
If you have
a database and you can export it as a .csv file format, then EPWin will
allow you to overprint the records onto your PDF form. Using the field
editor within the Data module, you can specify which fields to use and
exactly where they should be positioned. Fields also have the choice of
different fonts and colours. |
|
Mail Module:
The Mail
module is similar to the Data module where it will take your name and
address database that has been exported as a .csv file format. This
module has the features to format your address and offers you the option
of adding 'Dear Sir/Madam' or build the correct salutation from your
database. |
|
Barcode
Module:
Barcodes can be quickly and easily created using this
module. Popular barcode types are catered for including Code39, EAN8,
EAN13 and EAN128. An incrementing barcode number can be used to create a
run of barcode labels. |
Special Note:
In addition to the
above list of modules, Scan Logic offers a bespoke module service. If you as the
user require a feature or special need that is not currently catered for, please
contact us to discuss a possible solution.
PDF
File Creation:
Once you have finished
setting up all your modules, EPWin can create a PDF file containing only the
overprinting data. This is necessary if the user will be printing onto
pre-printed stationery. However, if you do require the PDF file to also contain
your PDF overlay forms, then you can specify to include the overlay at PDF file
creation. All this is fully automated, and a new PDF file is created containing
both the PDF overlays and your overprinted data. |
There are two special features that need to be understood:
The GRID feature: you can divide the page area into as many sections as
you wish. Thus if you select a module and specify a grid, the module will be
applied to every grid area within the page.
The CYCLE feature: when you write the output PDF file containing the overprint
data for every page, should you specify 2 cycles, then the 2nd cycle
starts at the last page of the 1st cycle; useful for printing books of tickets.
EPWin allows for a front and back cover, with overlays on covers and content
pages. The job can be printed in simplex or duplex, and page size is catered
for on both sheet-fed and roll feed presses.
EPWin writes a PDF file containing all data to be overprinted. The user enters
the number of pages to be printed, or selects the option to print a quantity as
dictated by the number of records in a file as specified within a data or mail
module.
At the time of writing the overprint PDF file, the user has the option to include
the PDF overlays. It is possible that pre-printed stationery is being used, in
which case the file would only contain the overprint data.
