Hyena uses an Explorer-style interface for all operations, including right mouse click pop-up context menus for all objects. Management of users, groups (both local and global), shares, domains, computers, services, devices, events, files, printers and print jobs, sessions, open files, disk space, user rights, messaging, exporting, job scheduling, processes and printing are all supported. In fact, Hyena can be used on any Windows client to manage any Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016 installation.
Hyena, our comprehensive and award-winning Active Directory
and Windows system management software, now includes multiple ways to
mass-update Active Directory information : Use the new
Active Task feature for mass updating and importing of
Active Directory information, or use the Active
Editor, an interactive Active Directory editor that lets
you freely move around and modify directory information as easily as if
it were in a spreadsheet.
Active Directory Integration: Hyena provides extensive Active Directory (AD) support, with built-in tools for customizable queries, filtering, management of object properties, advanced attribute management, and many other AD administration features.
Bulk Editing with Active Editor: A tabular-like window which lets you freely move around and modify directory information as easily as if it were in a spreadsheet. The 'Active Editor' also supports importing changes from delimited text files.
Importing with Active Editor: Supports updating and creating new Active Directory objects from a delimited text file.
Server Management: Most of Hyena's features are built around server and computer administration. With Hyena's multiple domain management layout and the capability to build custom groups of objects such as servers and printers, Hyena can easily provide access to every aspect of server administration.
User Management: Hyena allows multiple templates to be configured that can be used to automatically create the user's home directory, optionally share it, plus configure the share and/or NTFS permissions...all automatically. This functionality is available for both standard and Terminal Server home directories.
Service Monitoring and Control: Hyena can manage services on any number of computers at the same time, plus perform service control and startup changes in mass.
Event Management: In addition to integration with the Windows native Event Viewer and MMC, Hyena also incorporates its own more powerful event viewing mechanism for network wide event log monitoring, management and reporting.
Job and Task Scheduling: All versions of Windows have built-in job scheduling systems, designed to run scheduled tasks at predetermined times. Hyena provides easy access to any scheduled job on any Windows server or workstation.
Printer Management: Hyena was designed to overcome many of these limitations and give system administrators and help desk staff better control over printers and print jobs.
Disk and File Administration: Disk and file administration, including routine file management, shared resource administration and disk space monitoring, is perhaps the most common task performed by system administrators. Hyena excels in allowing system administrators full control over every disk and file related management task.
Exchange Administration: Hyena continues offering support for Exchange 2000 through Exchange 2016, on any client operating system up to Windows 10 and for both the x64 and x86
WMI/Inventory: Hyena leverages WMI by allowing WMI "queries" to be run on one or more computers directly from its GUI interface. Hyena also allows for WMI operations to be performed on the resulting output, providing for an easy mechanism for updating information for multiple computers at the same time.
Reporting and Exporting: Hyena set the standard for easy exporting and report generation for a wide spectrum of system information.
Bulk Importing: Hyena's 'Active Task' feature supports bulk/mass updating and creation of new Active Directory objects from a delimited text file. Task settings and options are saved automatically, so repeated updates can be performed with minimal steps. Most directory data types are supported, including text, numeric, true/false, multi-valued and more.
Hyena v13.8 is Here with a New Primary Interface!
Hyena v13.8 has a fresh new look, with a cleaner interface
that offers a lot of customization. Besides looking a bit different than a
standard menu/toolbar interface, the new Microsoft ribbon-style interface
supports a number of built-in features, including:
Eight (8) adjustable styles.
Customizable 'Quick Access Toolbar (QAT)', which can be positioned above or below the main ribbon. Any button, button group, menu, or even custom tools can be added to the QAT.
Optional minimizing of the ribbon, which can then be made visible by clicking on the remaining menu or keystroke (Control-F1).
Automatic layout adjustments for resizing, screen resolution, and O/S versions.
Using the built-in Windows administration tools to manage a medium to large Windows network or Active Directory environment can be a challenge. Add multiple domains, hundreds or thousands of servers, workstations, and users, and before you know it, things can get out of hand. Hyena is designed to both simplify and centralize nearly all of the day-to-day management tasks, while providing new capabilities for system administration. This functionality is provided in a single, centralized, easy to use product. Hyena includes Active Directory tools for Windows 10. In fact, Hyena can be used on any Windows client to manage any Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016/2019 installation.
and 'Active Editor'
components are powerful tools to assist in making mass changes to Active
Directory. Both functions offer an interactive and intuitive approach to what is
often a complex and difficult process.
The key match option in Active Task allows for any unique
directory attribute to be used as a 'match' field when updating directory
objects. One or more scopes can be defined, and saved as reusable templates,
which serve as a starting point for directory searches when finding matching
AD Query Container
Hyena's AD query capabilities have been expanded to now allow
a default query to be assigned to one or more AD containers. Previously, an
administrator's knowledge of what is in a particular AD container would require
manually selecting the query to be executed from the context menu. With this new
feature, a specific set of containers/OUs can be assigned to be the default
view. This saves time when using customized queries to view specific object
attributes. Moreover, a top-level container can be used as a wildcard to target
Select From File
Hyena can now select entries in the list window (right results
window) from any matching designated column in a text file. This feature is
useful if an external source of information needs to be used as a basis of
finding and selecting the matching or non-matching items from, for example, the
results of an Active Directory query. Options include file delimiter options,
matching field selection, selection or non-selection results clearing, and a
'preview' option to view results.
Enhanced Server View
In previous versions of Hyena, the 'Servers' listing for
Active Directory domains has always relied upon using the Windows browse list.
Hyena v12.2 introduces a new feature to retrieve servers from multiple Active
Directory containers or organizational units, including options to search
sub-containers and configure the attributes to display.
Group Policy Links
Hyena's new Group Policy Links view can be used to display
information on all GPOs linked to one or more organization units, including
listing the number of policies, policy order, status, and WMI filtering
While the GPMC can be used to get this same information, its
limited to only showing GPO links for a single organizational unit. Hyena's GPO
link view can display this information for any number of OUs at the same time.
The new 'Active Stats' view in Hyena makes it easy to display
the total number and type of objects contained in one or more selected
containers and organizational units. The 'Stats' view can show the number of
objects for each object class or selected object classes.
Other options include sub-level searching, optional
indentation for sub-containers, skipping disabled users or computers, and
showing individual group types.
Hyena is licensed only to the user actually using the software, regardless of the number of end-users, domains, or servers actually managed. Each administrator that uses Hyena requires a separate licence. Once licensed, an administrator can use Hyena from their local workstation, on a server, or from any workstation via network or RDP access. Concurrent-use licensing is not permitted, due to the difficulty of compliance and usage tracking.
Upon receipt of your order, you will receive a unique serial number (registration key). This registration key that you receive will permit indefinite use of the registered version.
Maintenance Policies for New
and Upgraded Licenses
The maintenance period that is built into all
Hyena licenses permits free updates within this maintenance period.
New Licenses - All new Hyena
licenses include a one (1) year free upgrade period from the date of purchase.
Upgrades - When an upgrade (for
example, upgrading from v8.1 to v11.x) is purchased, the upgraded licenses
automatically include one (1) year of maintenance. If additional licenses are
purchased at the same time that an upgrade is purchased, maintenance must be
purchased on the additional licenses.
An active and current maintenance agreement
entitles the licensee to free upgrades during the maintenance period. Hyena's
Tools > Settings > Licensing dialog can be used to display the
maintenance expiration date. Hyena will provide a warning when the maintenance
period is about to expire.
The relationship of Hyena's maintenance
expiration period and Hyena's release date are used to determine whether a given
license is eligible for a free upgrade to a newer version. If the maintenance
expiration date is AFTER the release date, then the upgrade is free. If the
maintenance expiration is BEFORE the release date, then upgrade charges apply.
Maintenance can be renewed at any time prior to the expiration date; any unused
maintenance time will be automatically added to the next maintenance period. If
the maintenance expiration date has expired, see the next section to determine
if it can still be renewed.
Hyena can be installed on any computer running any of the following operating systems or their variants, ie 'Small Business Edition', R2, etc:
The computer that Hyena is installed on can be running either as a workstation or server. There are two general configurations that Hyena is normally installed under:
Hyena is installed on a workstation running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7/8/10 and is used to manage one or more domains running a Windows 20xx, usually in an Active Directory environment.
Hyena is installed on a Windows server or domain controller, and a remote access tool or software (Windows Remote Desktop, VNC, PcAnywhere, RAdmin, Citrix, VMware, etc.) is used to connect to the server and Hyena is run through the remote access session to manage the local server and/or one or more domains.
