Altova Introduces Version 2009 of its MissionKit Tool Suite

THE ALTOVA MISSIONKIT 2009 DELIVERS COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT FOR XBRL AND HL7 INDUSTRY STANDARDS, EXTENDED DATABASE FUNCTIONALITY, AND MORE

Altova®, creator of XMLSpy® the industry leading XML editor, has announced the availability of Version 2009 (v2009) of the Altova MissionKit®, an integrated suite of XML, database, and UML tools. Version 2009 adds a host of powerful new features and functionality across multiple tools in the MissionKit, including comprehensive support for the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) standard and native database support for SQL Server® 2008, Oracle® 11g, and PostgreSQL 8. The release of Version 2009 also includes functionality for working with the Health Level Seven (HL7) standard in MapForce®, along with new database differencing capabilities in DatabaseSpy® and DiffDog®, and much more.

The release of the Altova MissionKit 2009 not only delivers the necessary functionality to support new XBRL mandates, but also provides important new features that have been requested by our customers who are looking to enhance their productivity with an eye towards reducing costs,” said Alexander Falk, President and CEO for Altova. “With the latest release of the Altova MissionKit, we are meeting the needs of our traditional customer base – developers, software architects, and IT power users – while at the same time providing key features and functionality for a variety of technical professionals looking for easy-to-use tools for working with XBRL and HL7 standards. And in addition to providing the necessary tools to help ease companies through this transition, we are also very much aware of the current economic conditions and are responding by decreasing our prices across the entire product line.

The Altova 2009 Product Line Delivers Comprehensive
Support for XBRL and HL7 Industry Standards
and Extended Database Functionality

Some of the many new features now available in the Altova MissionKit 2009 tool suite include:

  • Support for XBRL Standards – Comprehensive support for viewing, editing, validating, mapping, and publishing XBRL data is now available across multiple tools in the Altova MissionKit.

    • XMLSpy 2009 includes a new engine that supports the validation of documents created based on XBRL 2.1 and XBRL Dimensions 1.0. This new feature allows users to view and analyse XBRL taxonomies as well as validate XBRL instance documents against taxonomies. XMLSpy 2009 also delivers a powerful, graphical XBRL taxonomy editor. The XBRL taxonomy editor uses the same editing paradigm as the popular XMLSpy graphical XML schema editor, providing a visual representation of XBRL taxonomies, with intelligent views and entry-helpers for editing and extending them. Note: XBRL validation is also supported in AltovaXML 2009, the free XML standards processor, providing developers with a royalty-free XBRL validator for use in their applications.

    • MapForce 2009 now supports graphical, drag-and-drop mapping of XBRL taxonomies as a source or target in any data mapping project. This new functionality enables users to comply with financial and business reporting mandates by graphically mapping backend data from accounting systems and databases to the XBRL format, or creating valid interim reports based on stored data. Users can map XBRL data to or from any other data format supported by MapForce, including XML, databases, flat files, Excel 2007 (OOXML), Web services, and EDI. This support is also useful for aggregating public XBRL data and mapping it to a database, for instance, for further analysis. Multiple automation options and royalty-free code generation in MapForce ensure that XBRL mappings can be created once and re-used as needed for quarterly or annual reporting.

    • StyleVision 2009, Altova’s graphical stylesheet design tool, now includes native support for the XBRL and XBRL Dimensions formatting requirement. This allows users to visually design financial reports for simultaneous output into HTML, RTF, PDF, and Word 2007 (OOXML) formats, enabling organisations to share customised business data in online or print format(s) with business partners, stakeholders, and regulatory commissions, all based on XBRL taxonomy requirements.

  • Extended Database Supporttt – Version 2009 adds native support for additional databases to all database-enabled Altova MissionKit tools, including XMLSpy, MapForce, DatabaseSpy, StyleVision, and DiffDog. Current support for SQL Server and Oracle databases is now extended to include the most recent versions – SQL Server 2008 and Oracle 11g. New support for the PostgreSQL database is also now available.

  • Support for HL7 – The MapForce 2009 data mapping and transformation tool now provides full support for the Health Level Seven (HL7) standard as a source or target mapping with the addition of HL7 v2 EDI messages. MapForce also supports HL7 v3, which uses XML Schema-based messages. Users can now insert an HL7 message as the source or target for any data mapping, enabling them to translate HL7 to and from XML, databases, flat files, Excel 2007 (OOXML), Web services, and other EDI formats, such as HIPAA X12.

  • New StyleVision Table Designs – New data structures for the representation of tables are now available in StyleVision 2009. This feature adds increased flexibility to stylesheet designs, enabling users to create and edit tables that have a mixture of dynamic and static properties. Additionally, this new design will accommodate XBRL dimensional data and allow users to insert XPath conditions that apply to entire rows or columns.

  • Enhanced Database Comparison and Merging Capabilities – DatabaseSpy 2009 and DiffDog 2009 both add major new functionality for comparing and merging database content. Individual database tables or multiple tables within a schema can be compared, whether they are the same database type or completely different databases. Results of the content comparisons are displayed in tables, and differences can be merged bi-directionally. This new database comparison functionality allows users to easily backup, copy, or merge data quickly and easily.

  • Sequence Diagram Generation – This new feature in UModel 2009, Altova’s UML modeling tool, greatly assists developers who need to reverse engineer existing applications written in Java, C#, or Visual Basic. After importing an existing project, directory, or individual file into a UModel 2009 project, users can now select any operation in any class, and automatically generate a sequence diagram that illustrates the lifecycle of the operation, as well as objects that interact with it. Like all other project diagrams in UModel, sequence diagrams are stored as part of the UModel project file and can be included in generated UModel project documentation. UModel 2009 also includes an extensive COM API that allows for complete automated control and the manipulation of external UML data structures, classes, interfaces, and diagrams, making UModel 2009 a perfect enterprise-wide UML tool.

The Altova® MissionKit® 2009 is an integrated suite of XML, database, and UML tools designed to meet the diverse development and data management needs of today’s software architects and XML developers.
