With the release of SBS 2011 Standard, and it now being
fully available to purchase and deploy, I am getting a lot of questions about
what is new other than the obvious base and integrated applications updates.
Here is a quick summary of some of the updates over previous versions

that were introduced in Windows SBS 2008. It also provides the same core set of
features that are familiar to Windows SBS customers. However, Windows SBS 2011

it easier for small businesses to back-up their data, collaborate, and share
information. The key features in Windows SBS 2011 Standard enable small
businesses to:

- Recover files with automatic backup if the files are accidentally lost
- Organize and access business information from the office and from remote locations
- Run compatible business software and applications

Microsoft
Windows Small Business Serveristä julkaistaan tammikuussa uusi versio ja
samalla poistuvat SBS 2008 tuotekoodit volyymihinnastosta.
Uuden version myötä lisensointiin tulee muutoksia. Jatkossa SBS Standardin
päälle on saatavilla ns. Add-on lisenssi SBS Premium-versioon. Add-on
lisenssillä pyritään saamaan joustavuutta lisensointiin niille asiakkaille,
jotka haluavat siirtyä Standard-versiosta Premiumiin. Mikäli asiakas siis haluaa
ottaa käyttöön SBS Standardin mutta haluaa mahdollisesti tulevaisuudessa siirtyä
SBS Premium-versioon, niin tämä on mahdollista Add-on lisensseillä. Tällöin
Add-on lisenssit tulee hankkia sekä serverille että CALeille. SBS Standard ja
Premium on rajattu 75 käyttäjälle.
Myöhemmin keväällä julkaistaan uutena tuotteena SBS Essentials -paketointi, joka
on rajattu 25 käyttäjälle. SBS Essentials serverilisenssin mukana tulevat
CALit, eli siihen ei tarvita erikseen CAL-lisenssejä. Myös Essentials-versioon
on saatavilla Add-on lisenssit SBS Premiumiin.

palvelimelle ja SBS 2011 Premium kahdelle palvelimelle.
