Vectorworks, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of European software giant the Nemetschek Group. A global leader in design technologies, Vectorworks has been developing computer-aided design (CAD) software for the architecture, engineering, construction, entertainment, and landscape design industries since 1985. The Vectorworks product line is one of the world's best-selling cross-platform CAD applications and has won many industry awards. The Vectorworks family of software includes Vectorworks Designer, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, and Fundamentals.
Since its beginnings in the mid-1980s as Diehl Graphsoft, Inc. and later as Nemetschek Vectorworks, the company has played a formative role in the CAD industry, redefining the marketplace by setting a high standard for its products, and continually testing and refining them to surpass users' expectations. In the process, it has become an internationally respected leader in both CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. The company created one of the first CAD programs, one of the first 3D modeling software programs, and the first cross-platform CAD application. Vectorworks was also one of the first to introduce BIM capabilities, before BIM became an industry buzzword.
With the spring 2000 acquisition by Nemetschek Group of Munich, Germany, Vectorworks became the Nemetschek Group's first US-based subsidiary, joining the parent company's network of more than 40 branches and subsidiaries throughout Europe. Dr. Biplab Sarkar, the CEO of Vectorworks, has focused the company on establishing global market leadership. That involves development of new products, entrance into new markets, and expansion into service areas once not considered as viable options. In 2017, Vectorworks acquired Design Software Solutions Limited and opened an office in Newbury, England to better serve its customers in the UK and Ireland.
Another outstanding feature of Vectorworks' corporate identity is what Macworld magazine called its "nearly fanatical devotion to responsiveness to customers." The company's hands-on training seminars and self-guided training options provide users with a variety of learning tools for the software. The company has also helped third-party developers create Vectorworks-specific products.
More than 650,000 designers rely on Vectorworks technology. They include world-renowned architects, prestigious landscape architects, award-winning entertainment designers, innovative product designers, and many more.
Vectorworks cares about design. Since 1985, we have served the architecture, landscape, and entertainment industries, drawing inspiration from the world around us and encouraging the more than 650,000 designers who use our software to create experiences that transform the world.
Our commitment to develop the world’s best cross-platform CAD and BIM software has taught us a simple truth: great design begins with the inspiration of the designer. Vectorworks supports that inspiration by guiding the exploration of discovery and finding creative solutions. We provide powerful tools to help designers capture ideas, nurture innovation, communicate effectively, and realize their vision.
Vectorworks 2020 has been released—big new data-design tools, performance improvements, and all-new animation system shine in the new version.
Global design and BIM software provider, Vectorworks, Inc. has announced the Vectorworks 2020 product lineup—including Vectorworks Architect, Vectorworks Landmark, Vectorworks Spotlight, Vectorworks Designer and Vectorworks Fundamentals, plus new versions of Vision and Braceworks.
The latest CAD/BIM software release updates the popular design software line with performance and quality enhancements while also strengthening data-driven workflows with brand new features.
Vectorworks 2020—Big new Data Features and New Animation Workflow
The new 2020 release features prominent new data-centric workflow features, useful for both BIM and non-BIM professionals. Importantly, the release also features an entirely new 3D animation system that replaces a set of legacy animation technologies. The new animation features also benefit from Vectorworks Graphics Module (VGM) performance tunings as well.
The new version of Vectorworks Architect, version 2020 features new BIM tools, data features, new powerful history features in 3D modeling, and an all-new 3d animation system.
“Data and usability are the cornerstones of this year’s product enhancements,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “When we looked at the future of the industry and what our customers’ needs were, we kept coming back to data, particularly data-driven insights. Vectorworks 2020 is centered around providing our customers with intuitive ways to use the powerful tools of our products, while also offering more practical ways to incorporate the use of data for an improved and insightful design workflow.”
With this focus on insightful design, Vectorworks 2020 extends the existing Data Visualization feature to the design layer environment. This lets customers change objects’ attributes using data parameters to visualize data for error checking, work validation, and quality control.
“With Data Visualization now available on design layers, we’re able to keep our attribute assignments consistent between projects, allowing us to quickly and consistently draw attention to relevant design elements,” said Brendan Gray, principal designer and president of Gray Matter Visual, Inc.
Better BIM Features
Vectorworks 2020 customer will also encounter superior Open BIM features from which to advance their practices. These include:
Increased workflow efficiency with the ability to directly edit fields in a list browser, such as in the Navigation palette or the Organization dialog.
Improved file performance and responsiveness of large and complex models with the updated Vectorworks Graphics Module.
A new Schematic View workflow to handle the complexity of modeling and documenting rigging workflows in Vectorworks Spotlight.
Accurate geolocation of a project with the new Geographic Information System (GIS) toolset and integration with Esri’s ArcGIS online services.
“Live Data Visualization opens a universe of possibilities in residential design,” said Daniel Jansenson of daniel jansenson architect. “With this new tool we’ll be able to quickly check on inadvertent documentation errors such as incorrect wall types, improper lighting fixtures or wrong insulation components. We can also quickly compare multiple zoning-code-compliant design alternatives, once the correct information is included in a model.”
The new rewritten animation features are also impressing early beta users. “As a professional who generates many residential building models, using the new Walkthrough Path from Selection to create animations is now easier than ever,” said Brian Goodridge, President of Thor Studios, Inc.
The definitive software for Architecture, Landscape and Built Environment Design, Event and Exhibition Design
Vectorworks 2020 is specialist and powerful software that is pleasantly user-friendly. It comes in five variants:
Vectorworks Architect - for architecture and built environment work,
Vectorworks Designer incorporates all these versions - ideal for multi-discipline practices.
Vectorworks Fundamentals (the basic package, short on specialist libraries but containing all core 2D and 3D functionality),
Vectorworks Landmark - for landscape/environment design, and
Vectorworks Spotlight - for event and exhibition design.
Renderworks is Vectorworks' own rendering platform - providing a range of options from stylised drawings to full photo-realistic renders. Since Vectorworks 2017 all packages have included Renderworks as standard.
