Intel® Parallel Studio XE is a software development suite that helps boost application performance by taking advantage of the ever-increasing processor core count and vector register width available in Intel® Xeon® processors, Intel® Xeon Phi™ processors and coprocessors, and other compatible processors.

Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017 for Linux, Windows, and OS X

Deliver top application performance and reliability with the Intel® Parallel Studio XE 2017. This software development suite combines Intel's C/C++ compiler and Fortran compiler; performance and parallel libraries; error checking, code robustness, and performance profiling tools into a single suite offering.

This package is for users who develop on and build for Intel® 64 architectures on Linux*, Windows*, and OS X*, as well as customers running over the Intel® Xeon Phi™ processors and coprocessors on Linux*. There are currently 3 editions of the suite:

    • Added precise FLOPS metric collection that considers usage of masked operations. FLOPS metrics are collected along with the Trip Counts analysis when enabled in project properties.
    • Multiple improvements in the Vectorization Advisor functionality
  • Intel® Threading Building Blocks:
    • The static_partitioner and async_node classes are now fully supported features
    • Added template class streaming_node to the flow graph API. It allows a flow graph to offload computations to other devices through streaming or offloading APIs.
  • Intel® Data Analytics Acceleration Library:
    • Introduced Neural Networks functionality
    • Introduced Python programming language API
  • Intel® Math Kernel Library:
    • Improved performance on Intel® Xeon Phi™ processor
    • Introduced Deep Neural Networks (DNN) to accelerate convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and deep neural networks on Intel® architecture
    • Included the latest LAPACK v3.6 enhancements
  • Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives:
    • Added Intel® IPP Platform-Aware APIs to support 64-bit parameters for image dimensions and vector length on 64-bit platforms and 64-bit operating systems
    • Introduced new Integration Wrappers APIs for some image processing and computer vision functions
    • Extended optimization for Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (Intel® AVX-512), Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (Intel® AVX2) and Intel® Streaming SIMD Extensions 4.2 (Intel® SSE4.2) instruction sets
  • Intel® VTune™ Amplifier XE:
    • Disk Input and Output analysis that monitors utilization of the disk subsystem, CPU and PCIe buses
    • Improvements to Memory Access analysis, HPC workloads profiling, and GPU analysis
  • Tutorials and sample codes have been removed from installation packages and are now availableonline
  • Intel® Integrated Performance Primitives, Intel® Data Analytics Acceleration Library, and Intel® Threading Building Blocks have been removed from Fortran language only editions
  • The --download-only command line option is no longer recognized. The online installer now provides a selectable option to download installation packages.
  • Support removed for the following:
    • Installation on IA-32 architecture host
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux* 5
    • Microsoft Visual Studio* 2010

These are the main licensing schemes available for Intel software products:

  • Named user licence
    Named-user licences are purchased and licensed on an individual user basis. The number of developers requiring access must equal the number of licences owned by the organisation.
  • Floating licence
    A floating licence allows several users to share licences at the same time on several systems. The licences are managed from a licensing server, as soon as a licence is released from one user, another user can request it. Floating licences are available as two-seat or five-seat licences.
  • Academic licencing
    Academic licensing is available to degree-granting institutions.
  • Volume Licence Program
    Similar in style to the Microsoft Open Value licensing scheme, Intel’s Volume Licence Program offers an affordable way to purchase higher value suites over a three year period. Minimum order value for the three years is the equivalent of $15,000 (i.e. $5,000 per year) and all licences include support and maintenance for the duration of the agreement.
Intel Premier Support

Intel Premier Support is an Intel-hosted website where you can submit questions, problems and other technical support issues to Intel and view previously submitted issues. If you have an active support services - you have access to Intel Premier Support. There is no direct email support offered by Intel.


Most Intel licences include a year's support. When your support expires it's important to consider renewing your Intel software to ensure you have access to any new versions released. After your subscription expires, you are "locked in" to the last version which released during your subscription period, and you are limited in terms of support. A renewal license allows you to extend your support window and provides you with an upgrade path for new versions, premier technical support and associated resources.

Intel offers two different renewal options

Pre-expiry date renewal

A less expensive renewal if you renew before your current licence expires. The subscription starts from the expiration of your current licence.

Post-expiry date renewal

This renewal is if you choose to wait to renew until after your current licence expires. The subscription starts from the purchase date. It is available for purchase from licence expiration to 12 months after expiration.
