Streamlined report design

The SAP Crystal Reports for Enterprise designer introduces more efficient workflows and features focused on reducing the time required to create and format reports:

• Freehand SQL command object - customise the SQL to optimise the query to relational data sources.
• Verify database options - ensure the report query reflects the modifications to the underlying data source.
• Report on modelled and unmodelled data - use subreports to combine in a single report data from multiple data sources including authored/modeled and unmodelled data from relational database tables.

Mobile and Viewers

Interactive Crystal Reports are now available in SAP BusinessObjects Mobile BI. There is also OpenDoc support in Mobile BI.

HTML viewers now support right-to-left locales by providing the following enhancements:

• Mirrored interface based on product locale.
• Right-to-left reporting of Arabic.
• Bi-directional text support in a single report.

Other viewer enhancements include the following:

• Chunking list of values in HTML viewer.
• Setting default view action in BI launch pad.

Licensing:

SAP Crystal Reports is licenced on a named-user basis for report design.

Unlike previous versions, SAP Crystal Reports does not include a runtime engine. Developer customers should create their application reports using the powerful SAP Crystal Reports designer, and then use the free SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio or SAP Crystal Reports, version for Eclipse APIs and runtime engines for integrating reports with applications. Both the .net and Java runtime engines are considered component engines, as they run in-process with a hosting application.

When component engines are embedded into thick-client applications, they may be freely redistributed both internally and externally to third parties. When component engines are embedded into Web applications used for internal business purposes, they may be freely redistributed internally only. To externally redistribute Web applications with embedded component engines, the application developer must acquire a licensed copy of SAP Crystal Reports each time the application is deployed (installed) by a third party.
